A Cornelian dilemma (dilemme cornélien) (also spelt in translation with two "l"'s i.e. "Corneillian") is a dilemma for someone to oblige and choose from each options, revealing a detrimental effect on them or anyone. In classic drama, it involves the character experiencing an inner conflict, forcing them to choose between love with honour or desire with duty. It is introduced in Le Cid.
