Comedy film is a film genre designed to be humorous. It is an old genre with some of the very first silent films being comedies. Comedy, unlike other film genres pays much more attention to stars, many former standup comics transition to the film industry, and cash in on the stage presence a known actor provides. Many comedic films are just there to make you laugh. However, some are a political or social commentary (Wag the Dog, Man of the Year).
