Colombia is a country in South America. Beginning in the mid-1970s Colombian drug cartels became major producers, processors and exporters of illegal drugs, primarily marijuana and cocaine.

The most internationally acclaimed Colombian artist is painter and sculptor Fernando Botero (1932-2023).

Literature
During the boom in Latin American literature, successful writers emerged, led by Gabriel García Márquez (1927-2014) and his magnum opus, One Hundred Years of Solitude. Then there is Fernando Vallejo.
