Claude Frollo et la Esmeralda [1] is a painting by Narcisse Virgilio Díaz. It is the collection of the Musée Fabre.
A print of the painting by Jules Laurens is in the third volume of the Illustrierte Sittengeschichte (1912, page 88) where it is titled Der unzüchtige Mönch (The indecent monk).
Catalog description:
- (Esquisse.) Un moine, dans un cachot, enlace dans ses bras une jeune fille à peu près nue et qui vient de s'évanouir.
- Ce tableau était primitivement intitulé le Moine, et ce Lilre lui convenait peut-être mieux que lenouveau, qui ne rappelle aucune scène du magnifique roman de Victor Hugo. C'est par un respect scrupuleux du catalogue ia Galerie Bruyas qu'il a été conservé.
