Charlotte Buff (1753–1828) was known to be a love interest of Goethe, whom she rejected to marry the diplomat and art collector Johann Christian Kestner. She is probably the inspiration for Goethe's masterpiece "The Sorrows of Young Werther". She bore Kestner four daughters and eight sons, among them August Kestner.
