Blanche Wittmann (1859-1913) was a famous patient of doctor Jean-Martin Charcot. She suffered from bouts of hysteria and was nicknamed « the queen of hysterics ». She is depicted in the painting A Clinical Lesson at the Salpêtrière.

The Swedish writer Per Olov Enquist, in his novel The Book about Blanche and Marie (2004), wrote a fictional biography of Blanche Wittmann, in which he imagines that she became assistant to Marie Curie after the death of Charcot. She did however, work in the radiology department and suffered several amputations.
