Black Star Liner: Reggae From Africa is a musical anthology of African reggae released on Heartbeat Records in 1983.
In the words of Heartbeat:
- Black Star Liner (a reference to Marcus Garvey's dream of a pan-African shipping line) is a unique collection of reggae music produced on the African continent, where this Jamaican musical style has become a powerful symbol of black liberation and pride. These vital performances, from Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Liberia run the gamut from convincing-sounding "Roots Rock" numbers to experiments in "Afro-reggae" fusion, and are performed in English, French, and a number of indigenous languages. The first collection ever.
