Birdy is a 1978 novel by William Wharton.

It was Wharton's first published novel, and was published when he was more than 50 years old. It won the National Book Award for first novel, and was made into a film, directed by Alan Parker and starring Matthew Modine and Nicolas Cage.

Naomi Wallace, a poet and playwright, adapted Birdy for the stage in 1997.
