"Anthem of Europe" is the anthem used by both the European Union to represent the union and its people, while also being used by the Council of Europe to represent Europe. It is based on "Ode to Joy" from the final movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony composed in 1823. The anthem is played on official occasions such as political or civil events.
