Adam[1] is a sculpture by Jacob Epstein

William McCance wrote in Picture Post (24 June 1939): 'Adam is a great work of art' because it 'is conceived in stone, its nature has not been violated by the chisel, and the forms and volumes are so magically related, one to the other, that there is an upward surge and flow which brings it to life - a kind of pulsating stone'.
