Sir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet (15 August 1771 – 21 September 1832) was a prolific Scottish historical novelist and poet best remembered for Ivanhoe and his "On the Supernatural in Fictitious Composition" (1827), his extended discussion of E. T. A. Hoffmann and literary supernaturalism.
