Ulay (born Frank Uwe Laysiepen; November 30, 1943 – March 2, 2020) was a German artist based in Amsterdam and Ljubljana, who received international recognition for his Polaroid art and collaborative performance art with longtime companion Marina Abramović.
He is perhaps best-known for The Other: Rest Energy (1980) in which he holds a bow to the heart of Marina Abramović.
