"Eric Hobsbawm in The Age of Extremes writes that "The cultural revolution of the latest twentieth century can thus best be understood as the triumph of the individual over society, or rather, the breaking of the threads which in the past had woven human beings into social textures" and evokes this as paralleling Margaret Thatcher's claim that 'There is no society, only individuals'."--Sholem Stein |

"There is no such thing as society, there are individual men and women and then there are families" is a dictum by Margaret Thatcher recorded in an interview with Woman's Own in October 1987.
It is often quoted in discussions on neoliberalism.
The dictum is echoed (or the other way around) by Osho who says almost the same:
- "In fact , there is no society , only individuals . Communism says there are no individuals, only society."--Yoga, the Alpha and the Omega (1976) by Osho, page 189.
