Tacoma is a mid-sized urban port city in and the county seat of Pierce County, Washington, United States.Template:GR The city is on Washington's Puget Sound, Template:Convert southwest of Seattle, Template:Convert northeast of the state capital, Olympia, and Template:Convert northwest of Mount Rainier National Park. The population was 193,556 at the 2000 census, while the Census Bureau estimated its population at 196,520 in 2007.<ref name="populationcity" /> Tacoma is the second-largest city in the Puget Sound area and the third largest in the state.
