Nuclear, or atomic warfare, is a war in which nuclear weapons are used. This has only happened once - the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States of America against the Empire of Japan near the end of World War II. Today the term usually refers to confrontations in which opposing sides are both armed with nuclear weapons.
