Letter from an Unknown Woman (1948 film)

Letter from an Unknown Woman (Brief einer Unbekannten) is a novella by Stefan Zweig. Published in 1922, it tells the story of a writer who, while reading a letter written by a woman he does not remember, gets glimpses into her life story.

In 1948, it was adapted to film by Howard Koch, directed by Max Ophüls. The film has been deemed "culturally significant" by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
