"It's like That" is a hip hop song performed by Run-D.M.C.. It first appeared in 1983 on a cassette backed with the track "Sucker M.C.'s". The song marked the start of Run-D.M.C.'s career and was the debut single on the trio's eponymous debut album. The song is about life in the area where the group lives (unemployment, prices, death, etc).

In 2008, it was ranked number 40 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop.

Background

In the re-release of the album in 2003, a booklet was included, and a reviewer, Angus Batey, wrote the background information about the album. When he wrote about "It's like That", he quoted: Template:Quote

Remix

In 1997, a remixed version by DJ Jason Nevins was released in Continental Europe, and this would top the charts in many countries and finally top the UK chart in 1998 which at the same time ended the Spice Girls run of six No1 hits and remain there for six weeks. Despite its popularity, Nevins only got paid the standard flat-rate fee. The music video for the remix featured two rival breakdance crews battling each other in a breakdance battle in which the females ultimately win.

Popular Culture

The song is featured in a popular YouTube video called 'Roots of Breakdance'[1] by user SBuitenhuis. The video was featured on Digg.com.

This song was also in the video game "GTA: Vice City Stories".
