1525 - The Swiss Anabaptist Movement is born when Conrad Grebel, Felix Manz, George Blaurock, and about a dozen others baptize each other in the home of Manz's mother in Zürich, breaking a thousand-year tradition of church-state union.

Zürich is the home of the Cabaret Voltaire where the Dada movement began in 1916 . "A line of poetry is a chance to get rid of all the filth that clings to this accursed language," Hugo Ball exclaimed. "I want the word where it ends and begins," he cried. "Dada is the heart of words." (That was "The First Dada Manifesto," July 14, 1916).
