Jorge Luis Borges wrote a contemporary bestiary of sorts, the Book of Imaginary Beings, which collects imaginary beasts from bestiaries and fiction. Writers of fantasy fiction draw heavily from the fanciful beasts described in mythology, fairy tales, and bestiaries. [Apr 2006]
