Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰéd-. Cognates include Avestan 𐬵𐬀𐬜𐬀𐬲 (zaδah, “anus”), Sanskrit हद् (had), हदति (hadati, “to evacuate, discharge excrement”), Old Armenian ձետ (jet, “tail, penis”), Albanian dhjes (“to shit”), Kurdish زوتک (zutik, “anus”).
